2/19/09 Kick-off Dinner and Meeting Monday, February 23, 2009 BHS Cafeteria 5:30-7:00 You and your family are invited to attend the Men’s Bruin Soccer season kick-off. Important information regarding the coming season will be distributed. Team schedule and business will be covered. Every family should be represented by at least one parent. Please make plans to attend. The boys will be coming in right after practice and we plan to socialize, eat and get right to business. The main course for the dinner as well as drinks will be provided. Each family is asked to provide these additional items that will complete the meal. Seniors (8) Deserts Juniors (8) Paper products (plates, cups, napkins) and utensils Sophomores (12) Salad or vegetable to go with chicken (to serve 12) Freshman (6) Deserts Everyone is encouraged to be ON TIME in order to start the dinner and meeting. Therefore, if you cannot be there by 5:30pm, please call a friend to bring your portion of the meal. Please communicate among your class to spread out the items we need. In an effort to organize the season and not have to approach the “payment” thing as much throughout the season, we are asking you to bring your checkbook to the kick-off. You will be asked to pay for the following: ATHLETIC FEE $50.00 (payable to BHS athletics) The BHS Athletic Department requires each player to pay this fee. This applies to all sports for the 2008-09 school year. If you have already paid for another sport (football, basketball, etc.), you will not need to pay again. WARM UP T-SHIRT, SOCKS. $38.00 (payable to Brentwood Soccer Fund) HOODED SWEATSHIRT AND SWEAT PANTS $40.00 (payable to Brentwood Soccer Fund) Not mandatory. Will be used as warm ups. YEAR END GIFTS $30.00 (payable to BHS Soccer) Donation requested from each family for end of the year gifts and awards to be given at the end of the season Athletic Banquet and Senior Night. PROGRAM SALES $20.00 (payable to BHS Soccer) Each player is asked to contribute toward the cost of a full-page ad for each class. FIELD FUND (payable to Brentwood Soccer Fund) The suggested amount per family per year is $300. Funds are used for the upkeep and maintenance of the field and equipment as well as purchasing equipment for the field and spectator areas and our new concession stand. Chip Thompson, parent of Shannon Thompson, one of our Lady Bruins, will present information about this effort. In addition forms will be available for those parents who would like to obtain sponsor signs for the field. If parents know of a business or individual who may be willing to purchase a sign it is an ideal way to offset any personal donation to the Field Fund. T shirts and sweats for parents and supporters may also be ordered on this night. Samples will be available of the different shirts and sweats that can be ordered. Parents will also be asked to sign up to help in various areas that will help make the season run smoother and spread out the jobs so that one or two parents don’t end up doing everything. Help will be needed in the following areas. - Pasta dinner hosts and helpers (Vicki DeSalvatore and Susan Davis will coordinate) - Ticket collecting at our home games - Concessions workers at our home games - Clock operator and PA assistant to help Tom Putnam - Help filming games If you have any questions please feel free to contact me. Thanks, Coach Purcell 2/12/09

All students who intend to try out for the soccer team must complete and return two forms by Friday, Feb. 6, 2009. The first form is the TSSAA Pre-participation Physical Evaluation. This is the form that indicates the student has received a “Physical” and is able to participate in soccer. The second form is the Emergency Treatment form. If you have already completed and turned in these forms this year because you played a fall sport you do not need to do anything further. You may not use the forms from last year. The physical must be repeated each year you participate. To obtain the forms go to the Brentwood High School website and click the Athletics tab. The forms may be downloaded from the page that comes up. Forms should be turned in to Coach Purcell by Friday, Feb. 6. If forms are not on file at that time you will not be able to try out. Please take care of this as soon as possible and do not wait until the last minute. Conditioning will begin on Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009. All trying out who will be doing the conditioning should report to CoachPurcell’s room at 3:00. Conditioning will be held every weekday beginning Jan. 8 and continuing through Feb. 6 from 3:00 until 4:15-4:30. Conditioning sessions are voluntary and are not required for those who will be trying out for the team. It is important to know , however, that conditioning is a essential part of soccer and will be a regular part of daily practice. It would be in the best interest of all to participate in as many pre-tryout conditioning sessions as possible. Tryouts will be held Monday, Feb. 9 through Thursday, Feb. 12 from 3:00 until 6:00 each day. At the present time we have about 60 students who have expressed an interest in playing soccer. We will keep around 30-32 players total to comprise both our varsity and JV teams this year. Thanks, Coach Purcell 12/17/08The State Champions, all you guys, have been invited to participate in the Predators Salute to State Champions.
We will be given free tickets to the Preds home game on January 6th, go on the ice between periods for a recognition time, get a free t-shirt and generally have a good time. I’ll have more details soon but I need to know as soon as possible who all can go. Please email asap with a yes or a no. Hopefully all of you that went off to college will be be able to make it, I hope so anyway. In addition I’ll have discount tickets available for any family members that would like to attend.
